Group piano lessons

Storytellers

From keys to tales: Inspiring young musicians

Ages 7-9

Our Storytellers curriculum goes beyond traditional piano lessons, immersing students in a world where music becomes a language of character, mood, feelings, and storytelling.

Creative learning

Through improvisation and composition, our learners explore how different ways of playing the piano can portray moods, characters, and storylines. Creative approaches are learner-centred and enable students to express themselves.

We listen to music in almost every lesson, developing an appreciation for expression and communication through music.

Listening

Performers

Our students perform in every lesson! Structured performance time at the end sees all students performing both solo and as an ensemble.

Interval training

To be able to master reading music, students need to understand intervals up and down on the staff. We begin this important skill by using just one line and building to all five.

Games

Games help to introduce and consolidate concepts and skills! Each game aims to embed learning and give students an opportunity to collaborate.

Singing

Singing is a key skill when learning any instrument, and our Storytellers sing the songs that they learn to play, using text from the story. We also encourage learners to sing finger numbers and letter names.

Technique is addressed in a creative way where our Storyteller learners consider how their piano playing can sound like knocking on the door, or like a lullaby!

Technique

Every lesson has activities that engage learners with rhythms: listening, tapping, creating, or reading, through which they develop an excellent sense of pulse!

Musical elements

We discover what the elements are that make up music through our topics. Would the Hare's music be fast or slow? Would the Giant's song be loud or soft? Storyteller learners develop the musical vocabulary to describe the impact of what they hear.

Group music-making, individual progress

Our innovative structures for differentiation and cyclical learning structures means that each student is able to have a suitable level of challenge for themselves even as they learn and play as a group. No learner is left behind or held back. We cover every learning style through our delivery and ensure that every learner thrives!
