Thanks for visiting my website! My name is Janna Ylioja, and I'm the owner of Prairie Blooms Music. I love connecting with people through classical and sacred music. The simple, beautiful prairie crocus in my logo inspires me to embrace every day as an opportunity to bloom and to help others do the same.
My Story
I've always loved the way music can connect people, and I love the beauty and joy it can bring to everyday and special moments. I started piano lessons at the age of seven, never dreaming that someday it would be such a huge part of my life.
After spending a year at a school in Finland as an eighteen-year-old where I had the opportunity to sing in a couple of choirs and study the organ, I found my way into university music studies and completed two undergraduate degrees, one in music and one in education. I enjoyed a few years of teaching music (along with many other subjects!) at various elementary and high schools, but it still felt like there was something else I'd like to do. I have directed many church choir sessions over the years, and I decided to see if there was anything I could do further on that pathway.
My road eventually brought me back to Finland, specifically to Helsinki, where I was able to study for two and a half years in the Master's in Church Music program at Sibelius Academy. I worked on choral conducting, organ performance and improvisation, liturgical organ playing, singing, and music arranging and composing. It was an amazing experience, being immersed in a new musical culture and deepening my own skills and understanding of music.
Now I'm back in Saskatchewan, blending all these different experiences into my dream career at Prairie Blooms Music. I'm excited to be able to use the skills I've developed to bring joy to people here and help create beautiful experiences and lasting memories.
